The day after opening a show for Jeff Beck on December 4, 1976, Tommy Bolin died of a drug overdose at the age of 25. He played with Zephyr (from 1969 to 1971), The James Gang (from 1973 through 1974), Deep Purple (from 1975 to 1976).
We were approached in 2009 to contribute to a compilation CD of previously unreleased tracks written by the guitar legend. We enthusiastically accepted the invitation and now it’s available to you.
The CD includes works by HiFi Superstar, Doogie White, Eric Martin, Troy Luccketta, Jeff Pilson, Randy Jackson, Rex Carroll, Rachel Barton, Derek St. Holmes, Kimberley Dahme, and The 77’s. A percentage of the proceeds from this project will benefit the Jackson Recovery Centers.
In the words of Doctor Love:
“It was a great honor to be asked to interpret and record an unreleased song from Tommy Bolin’s personal archives. We were particularly moved by his demo recording of this tune so we had lots of direct inspiration from the master himself to help us along the way. Tommy’s version was a southern down-home acoustic blues but I kept hearing T-Rex in it somehow -- Bolin versus Bolan! Eventually, we ended up veering more towards Mark’s southern roots -- Little Feat meets Dr. John at the crossroads -- outtasite ~~ : D “

I vote for a limited edition 45 RPM, with the flip side being a new original song.
