Mike, just so you know, i am glad you did! I absolutely love the song! It speaks to me tremedously. Your good deed is not being punished. Sorry you take it that way! I certainly didn't mean to sound as if I was unhappy about it, because that is not the case. Nor did I mean to come across as ungrateful. That is not the case as well. Again, I love the song and I apologize if you took it as criticism. Thank you very much for putting it on there! I mean that.

Hey it's ok, I'm like not all bent outta shape or anything. Just kinda surprised at the reaction to it from critics, etc.
What I am miffed about is how long we spent mixing that song compared to the others. Bruce went on a tear with it and wasted incredible amounts of mix time on it that I wish we'd put into the other ones, but they all came out good anyway. Sometimes you gotta beat it on down the line.

I really don't understand all the animosity toward ANY of the tracks on this album...they're all FLIPPIN BRILLIANT!!
Keep up the good work--Dave, Bruce, Dr. Love.

Mike,
I'm glad you put the last song on. It's a great song.
I, too, wondered for awhile whether a covers album would be great. You've been telling us for a couple of years how proud you've been of this work. I love this new album. It rocks. You've taken the songs and injected them with that 77's sauce and turned out one of the best albums of your career. My daughter keeps asking me to play it for her. She favorites are "City Of Refuge" and "Working On A Building".I was over at my folks house recently. I brought HGB with me and played it. My mother loved it. Including me, that's 3 generations that all love it.
I hope you can generate great sales!

It's a great song, it's just quite a departure from the rest. As fans, I believe we all appreciate it a lot. At the same time, we would like for you guys to have commercial success, even if at the CCM store. The fact that your music caters to us may hurt your exposure chances. It seems selfish on our part, keeping your great music to ourselves. I wish it had a greater audience, for the sake of the monetary benefits you guys could & should reap.

Hidden track? Hell No!
That is a great closing track!
No regrets are needed.
It's a tradition among albums that the last song should stand apart
and be somewhat different front the rest of it.
"It's all over Now, Baby Blue" on Bringing it all Back Home.
"Tomorrow Never Knows" on Revolver.
"Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands" on Blonde onBlonde.
"The Shape of Air" on Darn Floor - Big Bite.
"I could Laugh" on the Island record.
If the critics don't get it... F**K 'em!
It just means they don't get it.

Pea...(and any other interested fans...)
Contrary to what you might think, a phrase like "effin dunce" isn't going to keep this CD out of your local Christian bookstore. The reality is, maybe 10 years ago this would have been an issue...maybe....but now it's about stores selling what is (more or less) guaranteed will sell.
Distribution companies look WAY less at content these days, and more at overall sales potential. If they think it will sell, and you can prove to them it will sell, they might stick it in stores. But the name of the game is really money.....not content. Trust me on this.

It is a great song......I tend to list on shuffle frequently to most discs, so I don't get too anticipatory and want to skip the occaisional one I'm not thrilled over or to jump to the upcoming fav. That's just me.
As for Doc's last picture, I seem to recall that many years ago this place sponsored a women's softball team.....

I'll be danged if the rough session tracks (including Mike's guide vocals) aren't good enough to be released as a bonus disk down the road (Working on a Holy Ghost Building?), but the good Doctor isn't into that idea. In fact, when I mentioned that I had gone back to listen to the basic tracks and had an idea, it was squashed before I could even vocalize it. Then again, if the fans cry loud enough, maybe ...

i thought it was effin dunce
and I had the same concern as Pea
I will sometimes send a copy of the new 77s release to the local CCM channel (which is always ignored), and I was sure they would reject it immediately because of that line.

I've already got a beatnick chick, and you will have to drag me kicking and screaming out of the HGB.
I know, I know, you will be happy to just leave me behind with those old pews.
