I'm a so totally not a liner notes guy, so while I was looking at PPOA liner I noticed that of the "9" songs on the disc Mike Roe only had 1/2 writing credits for 4 of them and none for the other five.
I guess I was sort of amazed by this. I have pretty much always just considered Mike to be guy behind the band - and in front of it as well.
FWIW

I have been trying to refute the myth of my "in chargeness" for years but no one listens because everyone wants to worship a leader.
It's in our nature, I guess.

I think Mike's delivery of the lyrics have such feeling and emotion people tend to think they came from him. Or in other words its hard to listen to a 77s song especially live and not think it came from him. Maybe I am wrong but to me thats how it seems.
Kinda like how a really good actor puts so much of himself in a role people tend to think the actor is like the character in real life.

I agree with much of what has been said...but I think I can usually distinguish a Roe song from a song written by someone else in the band. Also, I think the best "mix" was Mike, Mark Tootle, Jan Eric, and Aaron Smith...the other lineups, they don't compare. The only people I've ever heard disagree are those who got into the 77's at or after Sticks and Stones...all "old school" fans I've talked to agree, which doesn't mean there cannot be exceptions, just my observation from my experience.
BTW, Stryper was in town promoting their new disc on Wednesday and I didn't even know it...would have stopped in to see them...loved them as a kid, though that isn't my thing these days.
