8 minutes or not, there's no reason to exclude "Pearls Before Swine". That is as classic a track as "Do It For Love", also noticeably absent.
Choke yourself, Pyle.

I actually never cared for "Do It For love" really. And if I put "Pearls Before Swine" on there, I would have had to cut off 3 or so songs. Couldn't do it.

Would have been easy for me to make it work. I would have ditched the AFD cuts. Not that they are bad songs, but I can't stand the 80's over-production.
I would also call a technical foul on your list, for including the "almost 77's" stuff on the list. Just because one or more of the guys is playing on the record, doesn't mean that it's 77's.
It's like the local radio station playing a "Two for Tuesday" and using a Sammy Hagar song, and a "Van Hagar" song and calling it a Two-Fer, or a Bad Company song, with a Free song, even though Paul Rodgers fronted both... It just doesn't fly in my book!!!
So...to sum up.
- Pearls would fit
- Don't care for AFD production
- Unless it's labeled 77's or Seventy Sevens, it doesn't fit
- 77 bc is opinionated
- Kit could retitle the list as "Essentially the Seventy Sevens" and it would allow me to be at rest with this concept.

GEEEZ! Yes! I love that CD! I wasn't thinking but I KNEW they sounded familiar: I'm just not good with names! And I was only looking in my 77s i-tunes and I have "solo" stuff else where so now I am going to listen to it now!
Thanks!

Hahahaha. Too true.
Of course, it IS a good list Kit. But you know when you put up the Essentials list, it's going to get critiqued to the HILT.

You mean a DLR song, and a "Van Hagar" song, right?
Man, you sure are picky!

I would have to include "I Could Laugh" on there as well. That is at the top of my list for a 77's tune. I know it's basically Mike and his guitar but it is an incredible song and touches me everytime I hear it.

I made a sevens 90 minute tape for my car several years ago... Tom Tom Blues was the new album back then.
Different kind of Light
How can you love
Caught in an unguarded Moment
You don't scare me
Tattoo
Do it for Love
The Lust, the Flesh and all the Rest
MT
Wild Blue (live)
Mary and the Baby Elvis (live)
Mercy Mercy (live - edited)
-
Woody
The Rain kept falling in Love
Film at 11
Cold cold Night
Rocks in your Head
Outskirts
Go with God but go
Hold dearly to me
Love like Gold
Tall Trees
I still like to listen to it - one of my fav car tapes after all these years. Of course, 90 minutes are not enough, even without considering songs after Tom Tom Blues. I miss Denomination Blues, Pearls before Swine, Perfect Blues, Don't this Way, God sends Quails, Miserable, Nuts for you, Snake, Dave's Blues, For crying out loud, etc.

Man, now I'm going to have to go home and put together a playlist. This has me itching to compile something.
