It was. I suppose I would correct it if I could be convinced there was any difference between the two shows

pfft--it's a good thing I have my own copies of Sticks and Stones and It's for You, or I'd never hear it.

One difference... one show was a bunch of 30-something actors pretending to be slutty 30-somethings. The other was a bunch of 30-something actors pretending to be slutty teenagers.

Out of curiosity, did the 77's get a little financial assistance when Melrose used your song? If so, was it enough to buy lunch for the band?

Yes I did, when Fox bought the song outright from Bongo Bob and myself so they wouldn't have to keep paying us royalties, which weren't all that great anyway. It bought the equivalent of lunch, which was my rent for two months as I remember.
Imagine that -- selling out MT for two months rent. I suppose it could've been worse.

So you're saying you don't own the song at all anymore?

Fox owns the song lock, stock and barrel. If some artist recorded it and took it to Number 1 with a bullet we would not make a dime. Nice, huh?
Actually, we would probably still make mechanicals as the songwriters, but not publishing royalties. That would still allow me to possibly retire if it made #1. Matt Slocum is a millionaire and will never have to work another day in his life based on mechanicals from "Kiss Me", which was the #1 song in the world the year it was a hit. That's, like, crazy success for a songwriter, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy
I believe Steve Taylor gets the other half of Kiss Me's dough in publishing royalties and has certainly already blown it all on that crappy film he made with Smitty, but there you go.

That's just sad.
I almost sold my trumpet one time about 1993 in order to pay rent. Somehow, I managed to get my rent paid without selling it. My story is similar, with the exception that I can't imagine any possible scenario where I could be a millionaire from not selling my trumpet.

I don't gots the cheeks for it. That man's got some crazy cheeks. Although I still have the trumpet, so I guess that I could just practice some more.

I figured he blew it prior to that trying to keep Squint Entertainment afloat.
