I just got "Drowning with Land in Sight" about a week ago from a friend. This is one album I've overlooked for a while. It's a loud one, and I like it. I'm curious about the lyrics to "snake". What is this song all about. Snake reminds me of an Alice Cooper song. Don't know if this is good or bad. Anyways, I hope a more experienced 77s fan could help me out on this one.

this song always hits me like a ton of bricks.... my take on it is the snake is sin?

Q: Couldn't they have at least tuned the guitars?
A: youare obviously not familiar with the musical output from the dorf family.

Yeah, I thought it was about sin, or sin creeping up on you. I remember the good Doctor saying that he wrote it quickly (or wrote the lyrics quickly), and it was done while in a donut shop. Also said something about it sounding like 'Ozzy Osbourne on reds'. I could see Alice Cooper too. Oh, and one with a video too, but can't remember much there at the moment.
Drowning was a favorite album of mine (still is), so definitely hope you enjoy.
