ok, so I'm like really getting into the 77's. I mean, their music is
just great...
The other day I am at the local cbs, debating on whether I should buy
RIOT or wait for the new DC Talk (I'm a BIGGG fan), when what to my
wondering eyes should appear, but a 77's CD and eight shiny reindeer.
Well, I of course ignored the reindeer (Christmas is getting way to
commercialized in my opinion... and I was more than just a little upset
about the cbs having reindeer in the store... I mean come one. If they
had had a Bible cover with reindeer on it, I would have jumped at that,
but live reindeer... give me a break).
I rushed over to the section marked 77's (acutally... it was in the
section marked Young Adult CCM... but you get the picture). Neat
cover... 3 old guys praying (I wondered why they weren't wearing shirts)
and holding a picture of some guy (probably a Satanic figure... I can't
be sure). Anyway... it looked like an interesting one... and much as I
had my heart set on RIOT... I figured I would buy 77's... they have a
Christian number as their name, so they must be ultra-holy.
Anyway... I'm writing to Ed Rock, bragging about my new purchases (I also
picked up some tracts and annointing oil), and I tell him that I just got
the 77's Cd entitled "the Seventy Sevens" (which is what it says on the
cover).
I'm waiting for a response from Ed, so I decide to check out the
lyrics... unfortuantely I have to buy them (WHAT IS UP WITH THAT!!!), but
that just goes to show you what good Christian boys these 77's are, using
their talent to support themselves and all. After all, Capitalism and
Democracy are the foundations of Christianity.
I did think it was curious that one of the song titles was covered over
by a pink-ish strip... but I figured that was probably because of those
liberals in congress, getting upset because the song was probably
entitled something to holy for them like "Pray for America because it
will burn and all our childern will go to Hell If we don't reinstitute
our Constitutional Right for Mandatory school Prayer", or something like
"People who Drink Beer are Sinners... Because Everyone Knows that the
wine mentioned in the Bible was Really just Colored Water or Grape Juice
and not Really Alcoholic". You know... something too holy for those darn
liberals (especially the ones that read Virginia Woolf).
Anyway... I get an e-mail back from Ed, saying that I am wrong, the real
name of the CD is "Pray Naked", and that the song that is pinked out is
"Pray Naked". Ed then goes onto to tell me that the cbs's probably had
something against this title, so they made the 77's pink it out.
AND WELL THEY SHOULD!!!! I am offended that they still sell this smut.
What is next? Freedom of thought too? I considered having a CD
burning... however I have instead decided to do the truly Christian
thing, and write a book, go on the road, and tell the world how CCM is
being invaded by wolf's in sheeps clothing. I always thought that
brother Swaggart was right... God bless him (and his MINISTRY).
So... as an open letter to the 77's, I rebuke you in the name of the
Lord! Get behind me SATAN! Your Music will have No POWER OVER ME!!! I
will continue to pray that you see things as God would have you see them
(you know... more like how I see them), but won't expect you too, so I am
getting together a BOYCOTT of All CBS's until they throw smut like this
out their doors. SUPPORT ME AND KNOW THAT I AM A SERVANT OF THE LORD
(and very self-rightous due to my lack of sinfullness).
