  Why the name "Doctor Love"

I know this is probably been asked 1000 times but was just wondering. I would like the truth, but some funny suggestions would be good.

Take care, Mark.

This thread has brought me to ponder how everyone here so quickly and easily accepted one of the most ridiculous moniker/nicknames ever. A bit of history is in order.

I honestly cannot remember how or why the name got started, but part of it had to do with being obsessed with the KISS song "Calling Doctor Love", having not heard it in at least a coupla decades. For some strange reason, I thought that it was an Al Green song -- can you believe that? This is probably why I allowed it to stick so hard, thinking I had aligned myself with a 'soul king' rather than the kings of 'bubble metal' Shocked I also heard Mike Love of The Beach Boys refer to himself this way in an inverview when he was trying to justify deserving the $5,000,000 he weasled out of Brian Wilson for songwriting collaboration back-royalties. It's easy to hate Mike, but for some reason when I heard him call himself "Doctor Love", I suddenly liked him -- don't ask me why.

I also think I was trying to piss off some girlfriend who was putting me down a lot, and calling myself "Doctor Love" made her even more angry. I decided to create a phone message on my answering machine with the name, just to try it out on unsuspecting callers. It had an immediately polarizing effect, especially with women, most of whom absolutely hated it. I knew I had a winner then Tongue

It all became official in my mind when my Dad left me a phone message calling me "Doctor Love". The rest is history.

Thumb Up!

Wow. I would love to see Mike with Adrian Bourgeois. From what I heard on his homepage and his myspace site, this kid has some fantastic stuff, and I can't help but hear the vocal resemblance to his father Brent. Bourgeois Tagg is one of my favorite "forgotten" bands of the 80s, and Brent's solo stuff is excellent as well, especially his first solo CD.

If I didn't live 1600 miles away, I would be in the front row for this! Excellent! Happy

  Adrian Boo-jwah

Adrian's fantastic - I had the honor of playing bass for him over the past 7 months when he was able to do full band gigs, and it was a huge challenge for me, especially since I haven't been in a band for about 3 years, but it was something I'm very glad I was able to do. It was fun playing in the same band with Mike, too. Big Grin Adrian is so insanely talented - piano, guitar, harmonica, drums, vocals and he can practically sneeze songs out. We only ever rehearsed once if we were lucky before a gig, and every time he'd bounce into the room with "Hey, I wrote three new songs last night - here they are!" All really great stuff too. I fully expect to see him make a huge name for himself.

I couldn't find the thread that this concert was talked about in (after searching for 12 or 13 seconds, so I dropped the link here...)
